Let me introduce you to the Miami Marlins, they are smooth talkers and apparently are so loaded it envies your favorite nachos and fries combined. Over the weekend they reeled in the best free agent closer and shortstop available in Heath Bell and Jose Reyes. Yet, they are not satisfied! The “Florida” Marlins would have been satisfied with just the new stadium, but not the Miami Marlins. The Miami Marlins are now eyeing the best available free agent on the market Albert Pujols. They are set to increase their initial offer for Pujols substantially. But, what does all this mean for the current Marlins?
Well, for starters it moves all-star Hanley Ramirez to third (or center), which I find fitting being that he called out Jeff Conine last season and publicly stated he instead will be called Mr. Marlin when his career is said and done. Well here is his chance, move your position and sacrifice your name for the better of the team, that’s what Mr. Marlin would of done. If Hanley does go to third it moves (for the time being) Emilio Bonifacio to center. It also solidifies the best double play combo in team history since Alex Gonzalez and Luis Castillo with Reyes joining Omar Infante. Leo (what’s his name) is currently out of the closer position and even out of a spot on the team thanks to his hearty contract and off-field issues. Now guys like Edward Mujica, Steve Cisheck and Randy Choate can make their case as late inning relievers.
What if Pujols signs?
