But, in the end if Prince Fielder is still available and he hasn't received any good offers from other MLB teams (which is very unlikely) then the Marlins will be very likely to make a run at him. For now though, the Marlins are more likely going to chase Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes and other arms for their rotation. Just because they wont be getting Prince doesn't mean they wont be getting talent.

Why no Prince?

The last line in the article is the most important thing - This does not mean we are done and not trying to add more talent.
ReplyDeletePujols isnt just for the latin people. He brings all kinds of fans to baseball. people follow him, they look him up daily, when he hits a HR EPSN is all over it in Sports Center. The publicity he brings would have been amazing. He would bring us new fans and new people spending money.
Prince would please current Marlins fans very much. I do not think he has the following Pujols does. He is not the same name as Pujols, ARod, Bautista and such, those players people look up and want to to watch (and yes, somehow i think Bautista won over the country everyone seems to love him).So while we would all be pleased with Fielder, he wont bring us new people. He isnt the best move from a business standpoint. Who knows how his body will be in 3 years. I dont want him signed for anything over 4 years.
Disagree! If you have money for Albert then you have money for Prince. He's missed 1 games in 3 years. 1game!!!!! 2007 50 hr's 2009 46 hr's 2011 38 hr's 121 rbi's last year.
ReplyDeleteThe Marlins arent the only one concerned with his body. And they took some of that Pujols money and gave it to Buehrle. In 2010 he had a bad year and with Ryan Braun hitting in front of you things change.
ReplyDeleteSigning Pujols was for national attention, which Fielder does not bring. They rather trade Gaby and put Logan at first to improve the defense. Keeping Logan in LF is a mistake.
